You need one, but not until your gonna sign something. Some might approach and ask if they can punt your stuff, I have never seen a problem with this. The only thing I would say is this. Choose wisely when you have people running around capital cities with your music, if you think the guy punting it is a bit of a chump or worse then the likely hood is others will too, "this will effect what people think of the band". Desperation is not the name of the game. If you haven't got anyone asking to work with you then work harder on your songs. I didn't want to use the cliché but I fear I had to at some point, "it really is all about the songs"
