The Special Edition were formed in 2006 by Ryan Miele and Matthew Black who were desperate to provide an alternative to the progressively emo movement in the area and form a band based more around songs than a look. It would be undoubtedly a step down from the immense talent of previous comedy trio 'The Dave' but the switch was unavoidable due to drummer 'Brown Sound' losing his mind and fleeing to Nepal. The band recruited bassist Scott Verth from local band 'Shall' and drummer Rory Preece and began work on converting Miele's folky pop demos into something vaguely reminiscent of rock 'n' roll.
After a successful summer of local gigging the band recorded the very rough 'Episode 7' ep at Captain Tom's studio in Aberdeen. The cd had virtually sold out after one gig. Verth decided to leave the band to persue a season's skiing in France and Craig Cantlie (CC) was recruited after a short break. The current line-up has involved a switch in instruments between CC and Matty but this has only enhanced the band who are currently looking for gigs outside their local area and the oppurtunity to record their tracks in a higher quality studio to get the breaks they need. the new line-up has produced a heavier sound, adding attitude to the earlier poppy sound and producing songs which show a new direction for the band.
The songs available to listen to on this site are from the first recordings in 2006, we hope to get some newer tracks uploaded asap, just as soon as someone can hunt down the master tape...
